We are a group of high schoolers dedicated to improving math proficiency in the Baltimore city area. Our goal is to equalize math education and give the resources necessary for our students to succeed.
Baltimore City has long faced challenges in providing equitable math education across its diverse student population. The city's public schools are marked by significant disparities in resource allocation, with many schools in less advantaged neighborhoods suffering from outdated materials, under-equipped classrooms, and high teacher turnover rates. These factors limit access to quality math education, essential for foundational skills and future STEM opportunities.
Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic has intensified these issues, as the transition to online learning highlighted the digital divide and set back many students in their mathematical learning. Addressing these educational gaps is crucial for fostering equitable academic success and broadening future opportunities for all of Baltimore City's students.
At MathConnect, our objectives are:
- Get more kids excited about and engaged with math from an early age
- Improve math proficiency and test scores for Baltimore City students
- Provide additional math instruction/tutoring resources beyond the classroom
- Increase access to math enrichment programs, especially in underserved communities
